Bridges and crowns are fixed prosthetic  devices that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants by a dentist, orthodontist.

Crowns are most commonly used to entirely cover or 'cap' a damaged tooth or cover an implant.

Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if you are missing one or more teeth.

A dental crown is a ceramic or porcelain prosthetic tooth that fits directly over an existing tooth.

In most cases a crown will be used if your tooth is badly decayed as a way to protect it from further damage and keep your entire bite functional.
